  1. I have a question. If just a regular reader, who has not joined any networking sites wants to nominate a book for a Grace Award, is there any way they can do that?

    • Deborah, Most regular people these days have some type of social networking site affiliation. If they belong to Goodreads or Shelfari that would work.

We have this rule in place to make sure they’re a real person. We check each networking site given and note if there’s activity there that shows they person is real.

  2. Thanks, Nike, but, no, this person does not participate in any sites, even those about books. In fact, she doesn’t spend much time on the computer. Anyway, thanks, again!

This is a sad situation. My parents, in their 70s, are avid readers. They don’t own a computer and barely know a mouse from a modem. It seems to me that a handwritten note sent to a snailmail address should be enough to convince the judges that a person is real. That is, unless the judge is computer-generated….

    • Karen, The nominations were closed on Feb 29th. So, the note could not have reached anyone by then. We don’t have offices or a building. So, we’d have to give the hone address of one of the judges…and the Grace Awards isn’t willing to do that. Although I wish your parents could have voted, the Grace Awards came up with rules that would best accommodate the most readers. The reason we want a link to a networking page that is active is so we can check it and see that it’s an active page…that the person doing the nominating is real. Our vote counter (not an author) checked the link given by each reader nominator. I’m sure no author would do this, but anyone can write notes and nominate themselves using their parents address.
